5 Stylish Ways to Wear the Oversized Denim Jacket

While some fashion pieces come and go with the trends, the jean jacket is one great example of a classic piece that simply will never be out of style. In fact, one of the biggest fashion trends in 2023 is the denim-on-denim look featuring either a denim skirt or a pair of jeans plus a soft denim shirt or an oversized denim jacket.

I'm currently still in search of a good vintage oversized denim jacket to add to my closet but if you have one that's been sitting in your closet for a while, it's about time to bring it out and wear it. On this post, I've collected five of my favourite ways to wear the good old oversized denim jacket.

Palazzo Pants + Oversized Denim Jacket

Found this look from Pinterest and love how it's super relaxed and yet still looking put together. A pair of palazzo pants or a soft wide-leg pants go really well with an oversized jean jacket. I think what makes this particular outfit really work is the fact that the pants are soft and flowy, which is the perfect contrast to the hardness of the jacket. Also, the delicate print or pattern of the pants adds interest to this combo.

Shorts + Oversized Denim Jacket

I love how extra large the jacket is over the shorts. And as with the first combo, I really think having a contrasting texture between the top, the bottom piece, and the outerwear really adds up to elevate the look. A pair of leather or linen shorts would be nice and I think a skort would work just as well too, so long as they are not overly short as to disappear from under the oversized jacket.

Draped Over the Shoulder

Here's another way to wear your oversized denim jacket. Instead of actually wearing it, you can simply let it drape over your shoulder with a pair of high-waist, wide-leg trousers and just a simple tank or tee underneath.

Add Colour to a Monochrome Outfit

I love how she finishes her all-black attire with a denim blazer. Such a subtle yet effective way to add that extra touch of colour to an otherwise monochromatic ensemble. I also love that her top, shoes, and handbag are very sweet and feminine matched with the casualness of the denim jacket.

Maxi Skirt + Oversized Denim Jacket

In the above inspo, I particularly like how slouchy her jacket is that the length actually falls just below her hips. That contrast of textures between the skirt and the jacket really works well together - the flowiness of the skirt against the roughness, edginess of the denim.

Which one of these styles would you like to try out with your oversized denim jacket?

Style Inspo: Print and Pattern Mixing

One of the styling techniques I love is print and pattern mixing. It can be challenging to come up with combinations that work well together but I do think that once you discover what works, it just puts your wardrobe to a whole new level. It can make styling outfits a lot more exciting!  True, print and pattern mixing might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I love that you can play with patterns and colours to create many different looks using just a couple of pieces in your wardrobe. In fact, I can imagine that if you have the right pieces, it's still possible to mix and match prints and patterns within a capsule wardrobe.  Here are a couple of my favorite print and pattern combos: This is a perfect example of two patterns combined to create a cool, comfy, casual OOTD. It doesn't matter that the greens are not in the same shade, and that there is a presence of other colours or that the patterns are not identical. Because the blazer and the shorts both feature the color gr...
